When and how to renew your DSC
A DSC is valid for a fixed period. Renew before it expires so your filings never stop.
Every DSC has an expiry date, usually one, two or three years after it is issued. After that date it can no longer be used to sign, which can hold up GST returns, MCA filings or tender submissions.
When to renew
Renew a few weeks before the expiry date. This leaves time for the verification step and any delivery of a new token, and avoids a gap right when a filing is due.
How to find your expiry date
Open your token manager and look at the certificate details, or check the date on your original certificate e-mail.
How renewal works
Renewal follows the same paperless process as a new certificate: choose the certificate type and validity, upload your KYC documents and complete the video verification. In many cases the new certificate can be issued onto the same USB token, so you do not need a new one.
If it has already expired
An expired certificate usually cannot be renewed and a fresh application is needed. It takes the same steps, so do not worry, but it is better to avoid the gap.
