How to set up your USB token and DSC for the first time

23 September 2026

Install the driver, check the certificate and change the default PIN. A short setup guide.

Once your DSC is issued on a USB token, a few minutes of setup makes signing trouble-free. 1. Install the token driver Different tokens use different drivers, such as HYP2003, ProxKey or mToken. You can download the right one for Windows, Mac or Linux from our Downloads page. Install it before you plug the token in, then restart if the installer asks. 2. Plug in the token Use a direct USB port rather than a hub. The token's light should come on and the token manager should detect it. 3. Check your certificate Open the token manager and confirm that your certificate is listed with the correct name and expiry date. 4. Change the default PIN Your token may arrive with a default PIN. Change it to one only you know and note it somewhere safe. Entering a wrong PIN several times locks the token. 5. Install the signing utility for your portal Some portals need a small utility. For the Income Tax portal this is the eMudhra Embridge software, also linked on our Downloads page. 6. Sign Open the portal, choose to sign with a DSC, select your certificate and enter the PIN. Stuck anywhere? Do not format the token, because that erases the certificate. Contact us first. Need help choosing or applying?
