Which DSC do you need for Income Tax, GST, MCA, EPFO, GeM and DGFT?

29 September 2026

A portal-by-portal guide to choosing the right certificate, so you order once and get it right.

Different portals have different rules. Use this as a starting point and confirm the latest requirement on the portal itself. Income Tax portal A Class 3 individual or organisation DSC is commonly used for e-filing and for signing as an authorised person. A PAN-linked certificate is needed. GST portal A Class 3 DSC is used to sign GST returns for companies and LLPs. Proprietors and others often use e-sign options, but a DSC is the usual route for firms with an authorised signatory. MCA (Registrar of Companies) Directors and professionals sign company filings with a Class 3 DSC, normally in an organisation certificate for company filings and director KYC. EPFO Employers register a DSC to sign EPF returns and challans. GeM and e-tendering Bidders sign and encrypt tender documents. A Class 3 organisation or combo certificate is generally required. DGFT and ICEGATE Importers and exporters need a DGFT-type certificate registered with the portals for licences and customs filings. Bulk invoice or PDF signing A document signer certificate lets a business sign many invoices or PDFs from one or more locations.
